Sex Therapy - Relate

If you’re experiencing problems in your sex life or you’d just like to work on intimacy with your partner, Sex Therapy can help.

What is Sex Therapy?

Many people experience difficulties in their sex life at some point. Sometimes it’s something small, sometimes not. Talking over these difficulties with a trained therapist is a great way to share how you feel and start enjoying sex again.

Take a look at our video, in which Relate Counsellor Paula explains what Sex Therapy is.

What kind of issues can Sex Therapy help with?

Sex Therapy can help with a wide range of issues. Some of the most common include:

- Having a different level of sex drive to your partner.
- Getting stuck in the same routine.
- Problems getting aroused.
- Feeling you’re not having enough sex.
- Issues with premature or delayed ejaculation.
- Difficulties with orgasm.
- Painful sex.
- Sexual addiction.
- A lack of enjoyment or interest for one or both partners.

Our therapists can help with a wide range of issues and discuss with you the best path forward. Get in touch with us to find out more about how we can help you.

What happens in Sex Therapy?

In your first session, your therapist will ask you some questions about your sex life, why you’ve decided to come to Sex Therapy and what you hope to get out of it. Your therapist will be supportive and non-judgemental so you can be open about what is concerning you.

If you’re in a relationship, you may explore whether there are any tensions or communication problems getting in the way. It’s best if couples attend together, but you can go attend on your own if you prefer.

If you decide that Sex Therapy is the best choice for you, you’ll begin to see your therapist regularly. You’ll talk together about how you’re getting on and your therapist will give you exercises to try with your partner at home.

Everything you say during therapy is kept completely confidential and your therapist will work with you to decide on how many sessions you need.
